Staff Profile: Anne Sweeney

Anne Sweeney

Year 2 Class Teacher

Anne completed a B.Ed. in Primary Education in Dublin, Ireland. Her specialist subject was English and she was privileged to have as one of her lecturers the poet Seamus Heaney, who subsequently won the Nobel Prize for Literature. She went on to complete her Diploma in Education while teaching at a primary school in Dublin. In addition to working in a multicultural environment, she was the PE co-ordinator and was responsible for directing athletics as well as promoting positive attitudes towards health and fitness.

Keen to teach in an international setting, Anne moved to Abu Dhabi, UAE, where she taught in a British International School. In her role there, as English co-ordinator, she enjoyed sharing her love of language and reading, helping to open up new worlds for students. She was also a member of the middle leadership team and was Year Leader of Year 4. Anne then joined the Nord Anglia school, BISS Abu Dhabi, when it opened in 2009.  There, she has enjoyed teaching a range of year groups, in addition to taking on the role of Year Leader in Year 3. When the opportunity arose to teach in BISS Puxi, she was keen to take on this new and exciting challenge.

Anne is an enthusiastic traveller and on a gap year went on a solo around the world trip. She enjoys running and has completed four marathons, at home in Ireland and in Boston and New York in the USA. She is also a keen hiker and recently stood on top of the highest point in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. While living in the Middle East, she learned to scuba dive and is now looking forward to exploring dive sites around China. Anne also enjoys reading and loves to lose herself in a good book.
