Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
Many thanks to those parents who attended our Secondary information session on Thursday evening. Mr. Bull and I were able to give more information on the plans for Secondary development including the new Secondary building and Sport Hall. We showed some concept pictures of both buildings and a video ‘fly through’. These will be available on the Parent Portal later this week.
We ran our Lockdown drill last week. I’m not sure what is more worrying, having to practice the drill in the first place or the fact that children of all ages completed the drill without a concern as if it is second nature. I’m grateful to the parents who arrived for the end of the school day and took part in the drill as requested – we do ask all people on site to follow our request to hide even in a drill so that children can see how the whole community should respond. We practise both fire evacuation and lockdown each term and we also have procedures in place to deal with other emergencies that may occur in school.
With ECAs starting last Friday we are now settling into the routine of the beginning and end of the school day. We ask parents who drive into school to drop off or pick up their children to follow guidance below. This will allow us to get cars on and off the site as quickly as possible.
- Please ensure you display your DCIS car sticker
- Please do not arrive on Dover Road too early as the LTA are monitoring the road following complaints from local residents. No car may come onto the site until the buses have cleared (usually about 3:15pm)
- Please allow our staff to help your children into and out of the car – in most cases there should be no need for you to get out of your car
- Some children do need more time to enter or exit the car. If there is an issue with your child please follow the direction of our staff who can allow you to pull out of the main traffic flow to give more time. Other parents should be mindful if you are waiting behind a car taking time – sounding your horn only adds to the stress and usually slows the process down rather than speeding it up
The FOBISIA Under 11 and Under 13 trials have been underway last week and this. We have been really pleased with the interest in participating and though we can only select a few students for the games in Phuket next year we will have further opportunities in the future for participation in other regional competitions, within both FOBISIA and NAE.
Have a great week.
Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
