Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly update 18/11/16

18 November 2016

‘Brexit’ has become a much-used word in the English language this year.  In June, the people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, in other words BRitain would EXIT the partnership it has had with the countries in Europe since 1973. More recently, Donald Trump has been elected as the next president of the USA with a promise to build a wall along the border with Mexico and put ‘America First’.  At TX this week, we have been celebrating that although we come from 24 different countries, we can achieve more by learning and working together.

The ‘International Flag Parade’ was the perfect way to start the week.  The colour and diversity of the costumes was a marvellous spectacle to behold.  As the children paraded, proudly holding their own nations’ flags, the other children and parents cheered and enjoyed learning a little more about the nations we represent.  The parade of children was interspersed with a variety of performances; an aboriginal dance, a Korean display, an Indian dance and a Balinese dance from Indonesia.  The event concluded with our whole community, parents, children, teachers and other staff, singing ‘We are the World’.  Fabulous!

On Wednesday, the ‘International Fair’ ran all day.  Once again, it was fantastic!  There were a wide range of crafts in the foyer, catering for all the age groups, and games from around the world in the sports hall.  Who would of thought that in this world of high technology, sitting on a bench and hitting each other with pillows could be so much fun.  The games and crafts temporarily paused for lunch…and what a lunch! Tasty treats from around the world as well as English delicacies (Cornish pasties and apple crumble and custard) were sampled in the canteen.  It was great to have the children from Poussieres De Vie come along to share our international feast.

Thank you to all the parents and staff who have worked so hard in preparing displays, getting resources together for crafts, setting up games and cooking such delicious food.  Thank you also to Ms Van who organised a very special Water Puppet show for the whole school on Thursday; the children and teachers really did enjoy this valuable experience. Trump? Brexit? Once again the TX community has shown that working as a TEAM, we can achieve something memorable to be really proud of…Together, Everyone Achieves More!

Parent Lunches

At TX we are introducing Parent Lunches following the canteen menu review, which parents and teachers completed during term three of last academic year.  Parent Lunches are when we invite parents into school during lunchtime to join their children to eat lunch from the school canteen together.  Parent Lunches will give children the opportunity to share the lunchtime routines with parents and for parents to have the opportunity to dine with their children in our TX canteen.

Parents who would like to join their child’s Parent Lunch will choose the dish of their choice and sit together with their child in the canteen to eat lunch.  Please note; parents are invited to the dining session of lunchtime in the canteen only, not the playtime session.

The upcoming dates of our first Parent Lunches this term are detailed below.  A CHQ invitation will be sent prior to each date for parents to register their attendance; please look out for this.

Tuesday 29th November

Personal Information Collection Statement (PICS)

It is now a requirement of the school that every parent agrees to a statement outlining how we as a school will store and use personal information. This is considered good practice and is now widely implemented by schools around the world.  As a current parent this is a retrospective action that links through to your original Application. The statement that this refers to can be accessed here for you to review and confirm agreement for each of your children. The statement also refers to our privacy statement that you can view on our website at the following address:

Privacy and cookie policy

Please look out for an email coming shortly to your Inbox for each child that you have enrolled in school. I would be grateful if you could register a response for each child in your family. This confirmation notification will be recorded in your child’s electronic file at BIS HCMC.

And Finally…

Reflecting on our International Week at TX, I think a lot is summed up in the words of the famous car industrialist Henry Ford:

‘Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.’

Have a fabulous weekend,
