In August 2018 we officially launched the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Education Drama curriculum. As part of this collaboration this week we welcomed Juilliard Drama Curriculum Specialist Stephanie Cunningham to our Secondary Campus for her first visit since our official launch.

At BIS HCMC we are ambitious for our students and our staff, and we work with the world’s best organisations to provide them with outstanding opportunities and experiences. In developing our performing arts curriculum around this belief, we collaborate with The Juilliard School, a world leader in performing arts education, to enhance our programme.

Juilliard curriculum specialists such as Stephanie are experienced educators and artists who have expertise in The Juilliard Approach to Classroom Instruction, teacher collaboration and Juilliard Creative Classroom resources.

During Stephanie’s visit we saw some excellent demonstration lessons that focused on theatrical clowns and 2D props and their use on stage. She observed a number of Drama staff teaching lessons from the Juilliard Creative Classroom feeding back on how this can be further developed as we delve even deeper into the wonderful lessons that Juilliard provide for us. Stephanie also led the Drama team through a Professional Development workshop where we looked at the Juilliard Approach in an engaging and thought provoking manner. Stephanie joined forces with Anne-Marie Astley to lead an energetic and incredibly fun parent workshop on one of the lessons that Key Stage 3 students will be experiencing this year. It was wonderful to see parents engaged in the setting of a Drama studio and throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the tasks set for them.

Juilliard Workshop 2

We are excited to welcome Stephanie back in January 2019 where she will spend some time in our Junior and Early Years and Infant classrooms, spreading the joy of the Juilliard Creative Classroom to our smallest performers.
