It always amazes us how such trips help to define and refine the personalities of each child who attends. New and lasting friendships are created, self-confidence and a sense of self achievement begins to develop and most importantly, our children see our teachers in a different light. On my visit to Long Hai, a group of children remarked to me, ‘Mr Simon, you’re actually quite fun to play with!’ – I’m not quite sure how to take this!

Primary FOBISIA Mathematicians
We would like to wish our 4 mathematicians the best of luck as they head across the city today to represent BIS HCMC at the Primary FOBISIA Maths Competition hosted by ABC school. Please look out for details on how they did in next week’s update.
BIS Invitational Gymnastics Competition
BIS HCMC will be hosting it’s annual Invitational Gymnastics Competition on Wednesday 28th March, starting at 3pm.
Children have been training hard since January for their Level 1-4 Floor and Vault routines and are all excited to compete for BIS in this unique competition. It would be great to see many parents supporting our teams at this event, to be held in the Sports Hall (5th floor) of the Secondary campus. Many thanks to GymKraft who have been training our Gymnasts all year and will be supporting the organisation of this event.
Health and Safety
Over the last 3 days, all three of our BIS HCMC campuses have undergone our annual external Health and Safety audit. The safety and wellbeing of all of our school community is always at the forefront of our thinking across our school and we are pleased to inform you that the feedback that we have initially received is very positive.
As a community, it is important for us all to stay vigilant with regard to health and safety issues. If you have a concern within our campus, please do not hesitate to report it directly to myself, Ms Dee or Ms Phuong Smollen, our Campus Facilities Manager.
Family Information Sheets
As a reminder to all families across BIS HCMC, the ‘Family Information Sheets’ that were distributed to your child this week must be completed and returned to school. It is extremely important that we have up to date and accurate information for each student in case of an emergency. As always, your support in this matter is very much appreciated.
Headteacher’s Coffee Morning
Our thanks go out to all parents who attended the Term 2 Headteacher’s Coffee morning on Wednesday morning. It was great to see so many parents in attendance with the discussion topics focusing upon:
- EY&IC and Junior Campus Updates
- Assessment, Reporting and Recording – understanding the Progress Update
- One PTG
For a refresh of the information discussed or if you were unable to attend this event, please find the full presentation here.
In a change to our routines, we now have all children who depart school on school buses meet the bus monitors for registration in the ELC. The ELC is located on the ground floor next to the nurses’ room.
We have made this decision to keep the children safer with so many buses on site and also to keep them cool and dry as the weather both heats up and as the rainy season approaches.
The bus monitors will walk the children to the buses once everyone has arrived. Secondary students will go directly to the buses as normal.
Year 5 Annual Residential Trip to Hoi An
Over the last 2 weeks, all of our Year 5 children travelled to Hoi An on their annual residential trip.
During their time in Hoi An, the children participated in a variety of activities. These included: lantern making, modelling clay toys and vases, abseiling at Marble Mountain, farming using traditional methods, cooking Banh Xiao and visiting My Son Holy Land. The trip offered the children an insight in to the culture and history of Vietnam.

Year 6 Annual Residential Trip to Cat Tien National Park
Following their Year 5 peers in two separate groups, Year 6 visited the Cat Tien National Park for an exciting residential trip. The children had the opportunity to explore the Tai Lai Longhouse and the surrounding forests, as well as paddling around the beautiful lake in kayaks.

Community Tet Collection – Donation Report 2018
Tết is a time of happiness but it can also be a time of family and financial pressures. One way that we can support our partners and their families is by running the annual Tết collection. This year the collection was run differently and BIS HCMC students, staff and parents made beautiful boxes of gifts for the children. Inside the gift boxes were toys, stationery and fun things for children from a variety of ages.
Read more about our community partners who have received your very generous donations in this post by Ms Clover Sharman, Community Service Projects Manager.
Meet the Specialist – Ms Kim McWilliam, School Counsellor
Ms Kim started work at BIS HCMC in August 2017 after working as a School Counsellor for over 11 years in Melbourne, Australia. Easter Holiday Sports Camps
This year’s Easter Sports Camps will be held at the BIS HCMC Junior Campus during our Easter break (Mon 16th to Fri 20th April and Mon 23rd – Fri 27th April).
Following the successes of previous holiday programmes, the activities on offer are action packed with football, basketball, t-ball, skills factory and swimming from providers such as Rising Stars Football Academy, FOX, SSA, Mr Vinh and Mr Richard.
Please click here to see the clubs on offer.
Copies of the reply slips can be collected from the Junior Office. All fees must be paid to the Cashier no later than Friday 7th April to secure your child’s place.
Please note that there will be minimum numbers of 6 students applied to each camp. If you do not receive an email from Mr Phil Husband, Director of Sports in the week leading up to the camp, please presume that the camp has sufficient numbers and that it will go ahead.
I do hope that you will take this opportunity to benefit from this high level of coaching and your child enjoys the fun and exciting environment created at BIS HCMC.
Driver’s Code of Conduct
In order to keep our children safe on the roads outside BIS, both before and after school, please can you spend a few minutes of your time discussing the following points with your drivers.
Never U Turn along the stretch of road outside EYIC, JC and SC – tell your driver to drive away from school and if they have to U Turn, please do so on the wider, less congested roads. Try the route past JC along Nguyen Van Huong, as an alternative way to get home – it may take a few extra minutes driving but it will save the time you spend in traffic.
We all have our part to play – thank you.
Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility
If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.
Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.
