Launching the search for our 2020 BIS ambassadors to the United Nations In the World Children’s Day assembly this week our 2019 Ambassadors to the United Nations Nina Pham and Eugene Chang launched the search for the 2020 ambassadors.

In the World Children’s Day assembly this week our 2019 Ambassadors to the United Nations Nina Pham and Eugene Chang launched the search for the 2020 ambassadors. This prestigious role represents the BIS HCMC community at the Global MUN and High Level Political Forum (HLPF) side event that takes place in New York in July. Representatives of UN nations join together to discuss progress towards the Global Goals, and the HLPF side event focuses on listening to young people and the actions they are taking around the world. This is an amazing opportunity to share everything that we do at BIS towards the Global Goals, and towards building a more sustainable future for our community and community partners. UNICEF has invited Nord Anglia Education students to participate in the UN and UNICEF Student Summit in New York in July 2020. This opportunity is exclusive to NAE students. The selected students will become ‘NAE Ambassadors’ and will demonstrate the action our schools are taking to tackle the United Nations Global Goals for sustainable development and to ensure understanding of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, both of which are the foci of our 2020 Global Challenge.  

What is the event?

The event will take place from 8th - 15th July in New York City and in this time students will participate in a global Model United Nations conference, UNICEF partner workshops, seminars, and debates. Students will work together to deliver a presentation for a specially convened meeting in support of the UN’s High Level Political Forum. They will also get the optional opportunity to see some of New York and potentially attend a Broadway show. More information on the High Level Political Forum can be found here. 

Application process:

Each school is able to send two students to this event. The Ambassadors for BIS HCMC will be decided via an application process. To be considered, students should meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrates significant commitment to community, MUN or global issues 

• Be an excellent role model and embody the BIS HCMC school values and ethos

• Be able to present, communicate, and argue diplomatically

• Have excellent leadership skills

In addition, they must also be:

• In Years 10, 11 or 12 (aged 15+)

• Attending BIS HCMC next academic year (from August 2020)

• Eligible for a USA Visa

• Involved in the Global Challenge launching at the end of November

• Committed to attend the event if successful

Entrants will also need to submit a 3-5 minute video answering the following question: What makes you the BIS HCMC Ambassador to the United Nations?

Both of these must be completed by 8am on Monday 2nd December and submitted to the Google Classroom: rhlz5w. 

Following this application, shortlisted students will be invited to complete a group task and short interview before the Christmas break. More information will be sent out to successful students after the application deadline.
