Sixth Form at BIS HCMC

At BIS HCMC, our senior students aged 16 to 18 study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a highly-regarded qualification which is universally recognised at high-ranking universities around the world.

As the leading IBDP school in Vietnam and one of a select group of top international schools in Southeast Asia, our world-class teachers will provide your child with an outstanding opportunity to secure the very best grades and a place at their first-choice university. And as a Nord Anglia school, we go beyond traditional education to equip uniquely our students with the skills to excel in higher education and beyond.

I would like to thank BIS for all the support you have given my daughter during IB and the university application process. Whilst challenging, the staff have made it an exciting and fun experience Andrew, parent of Year 13 student

Our approach to a holistic education fosters a love of learning in our students.

Our students’ success is the result of the personalised approach to balancing their academic achievements with developing their unique character and individual wellbeing.

It begins with the freedom for students to design their own curriculum, selecting a balanced pathway from a broad range of subjects. This personalisation continues as we recruit the best teachers from across the globe to meet our students’ choices, and in the individual support each student receives from an experienced team throughout their IBDP Journey.

As well as our highly qualified teachers we also have a dedicated University and Guidance Department, which will help your child to explore their potential and recognise their individual skills.

Your child will be exposed to memorable lifetime experiences thanks to Nord Anglia Education's prestigious collaborations with leading organisations like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Juilliard School and UNICEF.

We will test every student’s resilience and build vital life skills like teamwork, leadership and confidence through expeditions to amazing locations throughout our native Vietnam, and overseas to places such as the Philippines, Borneo, Switzerland, Thailand and more.

Your child will also get the opportunity to connect with students and institutions through the exclusive Global Campus platform, where they can immerse themselves in international projects and challenges whilst further improving their technology-enabled skill sets.

What are the fundamental principles that underpin Sixth Form life at BIS HCMC?

Our Sixth form students are the embodiment of our school mission and values, and lead the rest of the school community in applying these values to everyday school life.

For example  our Sixth Formers  led younger students to generate the ‘BIS student values’ that guide school life.

“As BIS students, we respect our peers, teachers and school environment. We show care for each other and our community. We show integrity through the relationships we form based on mutual respect.”

In simple terms we also say

·         Be kind

·         Be involved

·         Try your best

It is though these attitudes and actions that our students fulfil our school mission

“United as global citizens we develop the skills and characteristics to create a more peaceful and sustainable world”.

How do you support students on their journey to Higher Education?

Our 3 person College & University Guidance (CUG) Team assists each of our students with their individual journey to Higher Education. The dedication and expertise of our team means that every student is supported in order to make the right decisions for their individual needs and aspirations.

This process begins in Year 11 with CUG providing extensive support for students as they look to decide upon their subject choices for the IBDP while also introducing Bridge U, the online platform we use for research into universities and careers.

In Year 12, students are given access to a huge range of resources and events that are curated and created in-house by our highly experienced team and also receive Wellbeing sessions and individual workshops that offer specific input and guidance related to particular destinations, disciplines or career pathways.

In Year 13, as the application season begins, students meet with their allocated counsellor for further guidance related to the submission of applications and associated issues. The CUG Team provides feedback on application writing and personal statements, hosts workshops for specific application systems and also facilitates interview practice and preparation where appropriate.

How do we support students to develop learning skills?

We focus on developing student independence by explicitly teaching evidence-based learning and revision strategies. Rather than expecting our students to find their own way and go by “what feels right”, we are instead using research in cognitive psychology and education to shape the ways that students study. This means they feel more confident and are well-prepared for the final examinations.
