At the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City we believe there is no limit to what your child can achieve socially, personally and academically. Our students’ academic results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) reflect our commitment to excellence in this area.
For the 2019/20 academic school year, our IB Diploma students achieved record breaking results, where 42% of students achieved an incredible score of 40 or more, over three times the global average. The average point score for the class of 2020 is 38, which when compared to the world average of 29.92, and one student achieved a perfect score of 45.
Despite the challenges that this year has brought, the class of 2020 has shown the true BIS HCMC spirit in achieving an outstanding IB average score of 38. This is the best average score in BIS history and the perseverance demonstrated by our students in such uncertain times is so commendable. My sincere and very enthusiastic congratulations to each and every one of them. I would also like to pay tribute to our outstanding staff and supportive parents who have offered the students the quality guidance they needed to achieve such wonderful outcomes. 2020 IB Results Highlights
Our 2020 IBDP results showcase a number of impressive statistics for this cohort, both on an individual level and collectively:
- Alice Lee achieved a perfect score of 45, joining a prestigious club of 0.01% of 2020 IB Students worldwide. Alice has gone on to study Business and accountancy at the National University of Singapore
- Our students' average score in the IB Diploma was 38, over 8 points higher than the 2020 world average and our best ever results.
- 42% of our students achieved 40 points or more. This level of attainment provides our students with the opportunity to gain admission into the world's elite universities.
Our average score continues to benchmark higher than the global average year-on-year, which serves to highlight the excellent academic standards of the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City and the calibre of our students in comparison to other international schools in Vietnam and indeed globally.
This continued academic success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students during their time at BIS HCMC and through a particularly challenging programme of education, our teachers who drive these exceptional results by encouraging and inspiring our students to be the best they can possibly be and of course our parents who provide unwavering support.
About the IB Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised qualification for admission into higher education. This intensive programme not only provides the academic knowledge and skills required for further education but offers our students the opportunity for personal growth to become responsible members of their communities.

Each student undertaking the full IB diploma studies 6 individual subjects with a maximum of 7 points awarded in each, as well as 3 core requirements. A full IB Diploma is awarded for those students who achieve 24 points or more up to a maximum of 45 points.
