Staff Profile: Chris McKelvie

Deputy Head Teacher, Junior Campus

Having enjoyed teaching in various regions of Asia already, Vietnam was a huge draw due to its vibrancy, fabulous people and great weather. The decision to look towards BIS as a long term teaching base was an even easier one. At BIS there are children who are eager to learn, and the encouragement from the management to allow teachers to develop their pupils beyond mere classroom competency -  to become world citizens - is  enlightening. As a parent, this is where I want my children to learn!

Bachelor of Education – Physical Education and Geography Majors - Griffith University

Chris joined the BIS team from the British section of the Taipei European School where he served for 4 years as a Year Group Leader as well as teaching in Key Stage 2. Prior to TES he spent 2 years at the British International school of Shanghai, Puxi Campus where he also performed the role of year group leader while teaching in Year 4. Before moving East to teach in the primary classroom, Chris spent 9 years as a teacher of PE in Kuwait, the Middle-East, where he was Head of Department in 2 large international schools. His career began as a year 4 teacher in the North-West of London where he developed his love for teaching in Key Stage 2 classrooms. His passions include travel, eating out in HCMC and taking an active interest in the sports coaching of pupils through ECAs. He has a wife (Nicole) who teaches in the KS1 section; as well as two children at school.
