SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

When your child advances to our British secondary school, their learning is based on the English National Curriculum – Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. At this point, students are beginning to form opinions on future courses of study and choose their favourite courses, ready to study for IGCSE exams.

KEY Stage 3

At The British School Warsaw, we make sure our students transition smoothly from Primary to Secondary, allowing their love of learning to grow and their personal strengths to develop.

In line the English National Curriculum, our Key Stage 3 programme continues to emphasise the importance of core skills in literacy, numeracy, and science. We introduce students to new ideas and to analytic skills, such as research, application, and interpretation of knowledge and sources. We empower our students to enquire into issues of local, national, and global significance, building their cultural understanding and preparing them for the academic challenges of their IGCSEs and IBDP.

KEY STAGE 4

The Key Stage 4 curriculum includes the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), which is one of the world’s most respected academic qualifications. Students can demonstrate their independence, as well as tailor their learning with a selection of optional subjects. The IGCSE is exam-based, assessed through Cambridge International Education, AQA, and Pearson Edexcel.

The Key Stage 4 curriculum supports academic, social, and personal growth and provides a solid launchpad for the academic rigour of the IBDP. Our results speak for themselves: last academic year, 37% of our IGCSE students achieved at least eight A’s or A*’s, helping them successfully apply to top universities.

We ensure students make the curriculum choices that are right for them through a specially designed decision-making process which begins in Year 9. This includes PSHE lessons, subject information week, taster sessions, form tutor mentoring, careers assemblies and the Year 9 Options Evening.
