Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3, students will study a wide range of academic subjects taught by enthusiastic specialist teachers. They will also have the opportunity to engage in an extensive range of after-school clubs and activities through our LEAP initiative.

Whilst pupils have experienced teaching by specialists in some areas of Key Stage 2, all subjects in Key Stage 3 are taught by specialists in the following fields:

Core Subjects

  • English
  • Science
  • Mathematics

Foundation Subjects

  • Art
  • Music
  • Geography
  • Physical Education
  • History
  • Information Communication Technology
  • Modern Languages

Additional Subjects

  • Polish (compulsory for all students at Key Stage 3)
  • PSHE/Citizenship

Key Stage 3 is a three-year programme covering Years 7 to 9. The objectives of this Key Stage are to:

  • ensure a smooth transition from whole-class teaching in Key Stage 2 to specialist subject teaching at Key Stage 3.
  • introduce students to a broader range of subjects building upon those already introduced at Key Stage 2.
  • pave the way for GCSE and IGCSE at Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4).
  • extend the challenges offered and the demands to be faced as new knowledge and skills are introduced.
  • encourage the development of learning skills and the ability to research, apply and interpret appropriate knowledge and information sources.
  • continue emphasising the importance of basic skills in literacy, numeracy and science.
  • improve the communication skills of all pupils, particularly through the use of media.
  • advance the pupil's cultural sensitivity towards, and moral and ethical understanding of, our social and cultural milieu.
  • encourage each pupil to contribute positively to the school community and to become an active participant in all areas of school life.
  • ensure that physical, moral, social and emotional aspects of a pupil's development are encouraged and expanded, without detracting from the growth of each student's personal leisure interests.
  • encourage each student to adopt a positive attitude to the care and protection of the environment.
