FAQs
- What is a good IB Diploma score?
- The IB Diploma is scored out of 45 points, and students need at least 24 points to pass. The current global average is 30.9. A score of 35 or more is considered strong, and 40 points or above is the level required by many of the world's most selective universities.
- What is the IB Bilingual Diploma?
- The IB Bilingual Diploma is awarded to students who complete part of their IB studies in two languages, for example by studying literature in two languages. This year, one in five TBS Warsaw IB graduates earned it, reflecting the multilingual nature of our school community.
- What is the difference between the IB Diploma and the Polish Matura?
- The IB Diploma is an international two-year programme in which students study six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, alongside an Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. It is scored out of 45. The Polish Matura is the national school-leaving exam, with compulsory papers in Polish, mathematics and a foreign language, plus at least one subject at extended level.
- Should my child choose the IB Diploma or A Levels?
- It depends on how your child learns best. The IB Diploma suits students who enjoy breadth, with six subjects plus research and reflection. A Levels suit students who prefer to specialise early, studying three or four subjects in depth. Both are highly respected by universities, so the right choice is the one that plays to your child's strengths and goals.
- What do top universities look for besides grades?
- Leading universities look for evidence of genuine interest in the subject beyond the classroom, such as wider reading, research projects, competitions and relevant experience. Depending on the country and course, they may also assess personal statements or essays, admissions tests, interviews, references and extracurricular commitment. Strong grades open the door, but these elements often decide the outcome.
