Carolyn Butler

I always wanted to be a teacher right from an early age. Growing up in Malaysia, I had a wonderful Primary teacher who inspired me to teach. Wind forward many years, and I qualified from Avery Hill Teacher Training College, London. Since then I have been fortunate enough to teach a wide range of ages from Early Years to Primary, Secondary and adults. My teaching experiences include instructing as a Captain in the Royal Army Educational Corps, as an English as an Additional Language teacher and as a class teacher for my three children.

My career has taken me to many different countries, and I have enjoyed connecting with people from around the world. I am delighted to be in DC with my husband and to have the privilege to teach at BISW alongside so many talented staff. I have been a floating teacher since 2016, allowing class teachers time out of the classroom for professional development. I love teaching as it is such a vibrant profession. I appreciate the community of fellow teachers, parents and at the heart of it, the students.
