Year 12 Students Represent Regents at the Nobel Quiz Mania in Nepal Four International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students from Regents International School Pattaya set themselves a new challenge by participating in the highly popular Nepalese televised quiz show, Nobel Quiz Mania.

Last week, 4 of our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students embarked on an exciting intellectual challenge.

Between the 6th and 13th January, Year 12 students Jinjang, Riju, James and Subhi set off to Nepal in order to compete in the Nobel Quiz Mania - a highly popular televised Nepalese quiz show. The team competed in the Asian Level of the quiz against competitors from more than 19 countries in Asia.

Jinjang and James acted as the first representatives of Thailand and Riju and Subhi were second. Impressively enough, Riju and Subhi came first in the qualifying round against India and Turkey and managed to enter the quarter finals against India and Nepal.

After competing in the challenging show, the team took the opportunity to travel to the tourist city of Pokhara to see the famous Macha Poochra mountain and the Annapurna Range; in which they completed a 3,000 metre trek in order to admire it from the Sarangkot view point. The group later went to see the Fewa Tal lake and immersed themselves further in Nepalese culture by exploring their diverse street food.

Year 12 student Subhi reflects: “Since it was such short notice we barely had any preparation, which is why we exceeded our own expectations by coming first in the qualifying round and managing to enter the quarter finals!

The quiz was an educational experience that made us gain an understanding of how students from different cultural backgrounds and education systems have a different approach to learning. Even though we went for a learning experience we were fortunate enough to end up forming friendships and witnessing the beautiful snowcapped Annapurna Range from Sarangkot view point, beautiful buddhist temples and Fewa Taal (lake) in the wonderful tourist city of Pokhara, Nepal. It was a truly memorable experience!”

Jinjang continues: “The experiences I had in Nepal was priceless. Not only the culture was diverse, but also there were variety of food.  In terms of the quiz, although we did not win, we have made some valuable relationships with participants from different countries. I think it is great to see people from around Asia being so empowered and eager to learn more and more.”
