At Regents International School Pattaya, innovation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a way of life. This year’s MIT Week 2025 was a spectacular showcase of creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, bringing the spirit of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to life across our campus. Throughout the week, students embodied our 6Cs of Learning—Curiosity, Collaboration, Commitment, Creativity, Compassion, and Critical Thinking—at every stage of their projects.

Learning beyond limits

Throughout the week, Key Stage 3 students worked in mixed House teams on an ambitious design challenge: to create innovative solutions to real-world problems that were either tiny in scale or involved layered materials. Using the MIT design process—research, define, explore, design, create, test, improve, and share—students developed prototypes, tested their ideas, and reflected on their outcomes.

Highlights included:
 - Building structures and models to tackle unique engineering challenges.
 - Experimenting with layered materials to solve everyday problems in sustainable ways.
 - Creating project videos to pitch their solutions to judges and peers.
 - Working in our specialist MakerSpace, DT labs, and technology & robotics suites, with guidance from our STEAM expert teachers who supported students to apply and extend their skills within their projects.

Inspired by MIT research

This year’s challenge was uniquely created for Nord Anglia Education students worldwide, inspired by the pioneering work of Professor Paula Hammond, Institute Professor at MIT. Her research on layered nanoparticles for cancer treatment provided the spark for our students to think creatively about solving problems through designs that are tiny or layered.

Celebration of innovation

The week culminated in the MIT Week Expo, a vibrant event where families, teachers, and fellow students explored 36 team projects. Students confidently presented their prototypes, explained their design process, and engaged their audience with enthusiasm.

House pride was strong throughout the event, with points awarded for teamwork, innovation, and presentation. After a close contest, Water House were crowned champions of the design challenge, with Fire 8 and Earth 5 taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

A special congratulations also goes to Water House, who were the overall House winners of MIT Week 2025, collecting the most house points by consistently developing and demonstrating the 6Cs of Learning.

Empowered by world-class collaboration

As part of the Nord Anglia Education family, Regents International School Pattaya benefits from exclusive collaborations with global leaders like MIT, The Juilliard School, and UNICEF. These partnerships empower our students to become inquisitive, innovative, and globally minded learners. MIT Week is a clear example of how our students engage with world-class ideas, tackle meaningful challenges, and prepare for a rapidly evolving future.

Why MIT Week matters – a message from our Head of Innovation

“MIT Week is about more than just science and technology—it’s about empowering students to think differently, solve real-world problems, and embrace creativity as a vital skill for the future. It also gives them a unique opportunity to learn beyond their everyday timetable—working in teams with peers who aren’t necessarily their friends, navigating roles and collaboration, and adapting to a tight schedule with a strict budget. These experiences give students a real taste of the challenges they will face in life beyond school. Our collaboration with MIT through Nord Anglia Education gives our students access to cutting-edge research, hands-on challenges, and a university-inspired model of learning that truly prepares them for whatever the future holds.”  — Nicole Sargeant, Head of Innovation, Regents International School Pattaya.

Relive the excitement

MIT Week 2025 was more than a celebration of science and technology — it was a chance for our students to experience the reality of problem-solving under pressure, teamwork beyond friendship groups, and the creativity needed to design within real-world constraints. These are the skills that will prepare them not only for future studies but also for life beyond school.
