Our Early Years curriculum has been specifically designed around the needs of Regents students, with ongoing observations and assessment ensuring that every child is known as an individual. Creating readers, writers and storytellers

At Regents Pattaya, children are immersed in high-quality literature from the very beginning.

Our carefully selected reading spine introduces children to rich vocabulary, engaging stories and diverse characters that inspire curiosity and imagination. Daily story sessions help children develop comprehension, prediction and storytelling skills while fostering a genuine enjoyment of reading.

Alongside this, we use Monster Phonics, a systematic and engaging phonics programme that helps children build strong connections between sounds and letters. Through songs, games, stories and practical activities, children develop the knowledge and confidence needed as emerging readers and writers.

As their confidence grows, children begin to:

·       Retell stories using actions, story maps and sequencing

·       Discuss characters, settings and key events

·       Match sounds to letters

·       Read simple words using phonics

·       Recognise common high-frequency words

·       Write simple words, labels and captions

·       Explain their ideas, experiences and discoveries with increasing confidence

These experiences help children see themselves as readers, writers, storytellers and thinkers from an early age.

Literacy through play, exploration and discovery

One of the distinctive features of Early Years at Regents is that literacy extends far beyond dedicated reading and writing sessions.

Inspired by the Curiosity Approach, our environments encourage children to investigate, question and explore. Literacy develops naturally as children create signs for role-play areas, record observations, share stories, discuss ideas and express their thinking through a wide range of meaningful experiences.

Our Forest School programme provides especially rich opportunities for language development. Whether children are building dens, searching for minibeasts, creating nature-inspired artwork or working together to solve problems, they are developing vocabulary, communication skills and confidence through authentic, hands-on learning.

Building a love of learning

While literacy outcomes are important, our ambitions are broader.

We want children to love books, ask questions, think creatively and view themselves as capable learners. Alongside developing reading and writing skills, our curriculum nurtures curiosity, independence and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

When children understand that literacy is a tool for exploring ideas, sharing experiences and making sense of the world around them, they become more motivated and engaged learners.

Evidence of success

The impact of strong Early Years foundations can be seen in our students' outcomes.

Recent data shows:

• 71% of Reception children achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD), exceeding the UK national figure of 68%.
• 81% met or exceeded age-related expectations in Literacy.
• 86% met or exceeded age-related expectations in Communication and Language.
• 85% met or exceeded age-related expectations in Mathematics.

The strong foundations established in Early Years continue into Primary, with 86% of Year 1 pupils meeting the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check, above the current England national average of 81%.

These outcomes reflect not only academic progress, but also the confidence, curiosity and learning habits children develop throughout their Early Years journey.

Working in partnership with families

Parents play an important role in children's literacy development.

Simple activities such as reading together, talking about stories, playing imaginatively and having meaningful conversations can make a significant difference.
