Increasingly, educators, universities and employers highlight skills such as critical thinking, creativity, adaptability and collaboration as important complements to academic knowledge. The 6Cs: Six ways of becoming

The Regents 6Cs are not six additional subjects. They are six learner ambitions that help students develop the habits, attitudes and behaviours needed for success in school, university, careers and life.

The six ambitions are:

• Curious: questioning, exploring and making connections
  
• Critical: observing, analysing and evaluating
  
• Creative: expressing ideas, innovating and solving problems
  
• Collaborative: relating, communicating and participating effectively
  
• Compassionate: understanding, caring and supporting others
  
• Committed: engaging, persisting and adapting when learning becomes challenging

These ambitions are developed deliberately across every stage of a child's education, from Early Years through to Sixth Form. Each ambition is broken down into clear strengths that become increasingly sophisticated as students grow and mature.

A journey from age 1 to 18

One of the strengths of the framework is that it grows with the child.

A curious three-year-old might ask:"Why is my shadow following me?"

By Primary School, that same curiosity develops into:"How could we test whether shadows change?"

By Sixth Form, students are asking:"What variables affect reliability, and what further evidence do we need?"

The ambition remains the same. What changes is the sophistication, independence and depth of thinking.

Similarly, commitment evolves from rebuilding a tower after it falls in Early Years, to improving a second draft in Primary, to planning, monitoring and adapting a complex project in Secondary School.

More than posters on a wall

At Regents Pattaya, the 6Cs are not standalone lessons or occasional assemblies. They are embedded throughout school life.

Students encounter them in classrooms, through leadership opportunities, sporting teams, STEAM projects, Forest School experiences, performing arts, service initiatives and everyday learning.

In Primary, children use the learner ambitions as part of everyday learning. Teachers make the language of the 6Cs visible in lessons so that children can recognise not only what they are learning, but also how they are learning. Students regularly reflect on their progress, set goals and respond to feedback using the learner ambitions as a shared framework. A child working on a STEAM project, for example, may reflect on how effectively they collaborated with others, while another may demonstrate commitment by improving a second draft following feedback or curiosity by asking questions that deepen their understanding. Over time, this shared language helps students become increasingly reflective, self-aware and independent learners.

In Early Years, children begin developing these habits through purposeful play, exploration and inquiry. Whether working together to solve a challenge in Forest School, investigating the natural world or sharing ideas during child-led learning, they are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, persevere and learn from one another. These everyday experiences help bring the learner ambitions to life from an early age.

The framework also helps students become more aware of how they learn. By encouraging children to reflect on their progress, identify successful learning strategies and think about their next steps, the 6Cs support greater confidence, independence and ownership of learning over time.

In Secondary School, the learner ambitions continue to underpin classroom learning, leadership opportunities, service initiatives and enrichment activities.
