Last Tuesday, Saint George School proudly opened the SGS Cup 2026, welcoming students, coaches, families, and representatives from 30 schools to the Home of the Dragons. This beloved tradition brings together young athletes from across the community to compete in soccer, basketball, and volleyball, while celebrating the values that define both great athletes and the spirit of our school.
The ceremony began with a symbolic procession of flags, proudly carried by our students, representing the Dominican Republic, the United Kingdom, and the Saint George School community. As the delegations from participating schools entered the field, the excitement and energy of the event set the tone for a week of sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendly competition.
At the heart of the SGS Cup are the values that guide our athletes on and off the field: discipline, passion, fellowship, fair play, respect, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and integrity. These principles remind us that sports are not only about competition, but also about character, teamwork, and personal growth.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Karina Pablo welcomed all participating schools, highlighting how events like the SGS Cup promote the well-rounded development of student athletes by fostering confidence, leadership, collaboration, and wellbeing.
A particularly meaningful moment of the afternoon was the tribute to the Saint George legacy. Three alumni — Felipe, Nieshi, and Joel — returned to campus to perform the honorary kickoff alongside their children, who are now students at Saint George. This special moment beautifully symbolized the continuity of our community and the pride that is passed from one generation of Dragons to the next.
The ceremony also included the athletes’ oath, led by our soccer and volleyball athlete Renata alongside members of our coaching team, reaffirming the commitment of all participants to compete with fairness, respect, discipline, and true sportsmanship.
With the official declaration of the opening, the SGS Cup 2026 began, marking the start of days filled with competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
As we proudly say at Saint George School:Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon.
