Michael Dunphy

Michael Dunphy

PHE & Co-curricular Coordinator

Michael Dunphy grew up in County Waterford and graduated with an BA (Hons) in Physical Education and Biology from Dublin City University in 2010. Since then, he has taught PE and Biology internationally, including in the UK, Qatar, Australia, China and Switzerland.

He spent three years as PE teacher and extra-curricular coordinator at a Nord Anglia Education sister school in Shanghai, and most recently taught at College Alpin Beau Soleil in Switzerland.

Michael has a passion for sport and physical activity and believes that they develop outstanding qualities in students, from leadership and commitment to perseverance and resilience. He coaches basketball, football and volleyball in particular, but has also been involved in preparing student teams for athletics, Gaelic football and hurling.

In his free time he loves travelling, cycling, playing football, supporting Manchester United and walking his golden retriever, Tess. Having spent time in the Alps, he is now a keen skier and snowboarder, so he will be making regular forays to Kilternan to practice on the dry slopes in South County Dublin.

After eight years abroad, Michael is excited to have returned home to be part of the amazing developments at NAIS Dublin in his role as co-curricular coordinator and PHE teacher. He is joined by his wife, Doireann Dunphy, who serves as the head of PHE at NAIS Dublin.
