TISAC Primary Choral Day

Last Thursday, we were delighted to host the TISAC Primary Choral Day for the 4th year running. We welcomed 7 other schools from around Bangkok to take part in a 190 strong choir. The children and teachers worked hard together all morning to learn 4 new songs and even managed to memorise the lyrics for 3 of them. Our theme this year was “Singing”. We included songs about how to sing (“Let’s Start to Sing”), why we love singing (“I Love to Sing”), how confident and brave singers can be when they perform (“Touch the Sky” from the movie ‘Brave’)  and how wonderful it is to have the opportunity to sing together (“One and a Million”).

As always we were really impressed with the focus and drive of our young singers. They built teamwork, musical skills, including harmonic and memory facilities, and there was a lovely feeling of community as the children made new friends.

In the afternoon they performed in a concert for Year 5 and many parents from all the schools. Well done to all of our STA Sing children

If you would like to hear us singing, please watch these videos of our concert:

Juilliard Visiting Artist - Eloise Fisher

Last Tuesday we had a great visit from internationally renowned clarinetist, Eloise Fisher. First of all, shel worked with some Year 4 children and gave them an insight into learning the clarinet, which should help them with their instrument choice in Year 5.  She performed 3 pieces to them. The first was a Latin-style jazzy piece, the second was a piece by Bach and the third was the children’s own choice - a modern piece full of wacky and unusual clarinet sounds!.

Eloise then worked with our STA band and ECA clarinetists. They focused on tonguing and learnt how to make their sounds clearer using the tongue. The children performed to her in small groups and received feedback, as well as hearing a beautiful Spanish piece that mimicked the guitar….but on clarinet.

Eloise then investigated the sounds the clarinet can make with Reception children. They showed her when they could hear high and low sounds, and used their hands to mimic the cat from Peter and Wolf as it was chased up a tree, as performed by Elouise on clarinet.

What a wonderful, fun-filled morning exploring the world of the clarinet, and what a great opportunity for our students to engage with such a high class performer.

Piano Competition

Next week, one of our Year 3 students, Trish, will be taking part in the 4th Siam International Piano Competition. We wish Trish all the best and hope she has a wonderful experience. If you have a young pianist in your family, you may like to attend the concerts as part of the audience and enjoy the music. Please see the poster with further information.
