VEX World Championships

vex1

On the 22nd of April 2023, two of the VEX Robotics teams from St Andrews International School Bangkok departed Thailand for the USA to compete in the 2023 VEX World Championships in Dallas, Texas, accompanied by their technology teachers Rob Parker and Arunima Chatterjee. Annually, the best of the best VEX teams from over 70 countries go to compete in the World Championships, going head to head to battle it out for a spot at the world title. The St Andrews VEX Robotics teams spent 10 days in Dallas demonstrating skills including iterative design, engineering, effective communication and teamwork and built strong relationships with students from many different countries across the globe. Following the VEX event, the St Andrews teams added a stop in Boston to foster new connections with students and teachers from the British International School of Boston by joining them for an afternoon of STEAM activities.

On the 4th of May, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) welcomed the group from St Andrews so that students could further understand the advances that the world-leading professors are making in Science and Technology as part of the exclusive relationship that Nord Anglia has with MIT. The group attended guided tours with Safinah Ali who is part of the MIT Media Lab for Personal Robotics, Guillermo Herrera-Across from the Biomechatronics Group and Nemo Hsiao and Dr Ken Chan from Soft and Micro Robotics. Students also explored the Aero Astro department of MIT including the famous Wright Brothers Wind tunnel so they could understand the research that post graduate students are conducting at the university. A truly inspiring day for this group of students.
