Creating strong relationships: Open Days at St Andrews Bangkok Primary School

Primary School Open Days - Primary School Open Days

The importance of Open Days at Primary School

At St Andrews International School Bangkok, our priority has always been the wellbeing and happiness of our students. A key factor in ensuring children are happy is building strong relationships with parents. This begins from the earliest visits to our Primary School and is exactly why we host our Open Days.

Open Days are a reflection of our mission statement, which emphasises the importance of creating a positive learning environment, and the foundation for our future as a community. Our staff and educators at St Andrews understand that success in our children’s academic journey is a collaboration between themselves, the students, and parents. We know that adults who foster healthy relationships with children and tune into their needs and signals, enable them to develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive independently and be confident learners in the future.

We develop these relationships in many ways.

First meetings at St Andrews

The first meeting you have with us is a get-to-know-you meeting. In some schools, it is regarded as a test to see if a child is academically suitable for the school. At St Andrews, our inclusive policy means that this initial “pre-assessment meeting” is an opportunity for us to get to know you and your child.

Every child is unique, with their preferences, strengths, and challenges. That's why we take the time to get to know each child individually, and you, too. As parents, you are your child’s first teacher. Our initial meetings focus on understanding your child's personality, interests, and any specific needs they may have that you’d like to share with us. By building familiarity with each student, we create a smooth transition process when they join our school.

Supporting social and emotional development

In today's post-pandemic world, we recognise the importance of supporting children's social and emotional development. Through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) programme, we provide specific guidance on creating friendships, managing conflicts, and coping with changes. Additionally, we have a team of expert counsellors and therapists, always available to support children who may be facing challenges in their development.

Tailored support for individual needs

As an inclusive international school, we’ve plenty of support options for students with specific learning needs at St Andrews. Our experienced Learning Support teachers provide small group or individual assistance as needed. The Stars programme is designed to help students with specific learning needs access mainstream education, while our EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme supports children in learning English for the first time.

Open Days at St Andrews Primary School play a crucial role in building strong relationships between parents, teachers, and our children. And, for us, getting to know each child as an individual is an essential starting point. This is how we cater to each child’s unique needs, ensure a positive environment, and craft a learning journey like no other. Our focus on social and emotional development, along with tailored support options, is what makes our school community the best environment for our students – an environment where every child can thrive and succeed.
