Primary School EAL Programmes

We offer English as an Additional Language tuition which is tailored to the needs of your child.

  • Regents International School Pattaya | Primary ESL

What level of English do students need to be at to be successful?

What is the EAL programme goal?

Regents uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to measure a student's language level. These levels are used by organizations such as the IGCSE and IB to determine whether students will be successful.

  • The CEFR organises language proficiency into 7 levels: A0 (pre -A1), A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.

  • The rate of language learning depends on language levels in home language, intensity of study, age, amount of study/exposure, and motivation.

  • The Regents EAL programme goal is for primary students reach B1 within 6 terms.

For success in the primary classroom, students need to be at least level B1.

B1 students can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Students can produce simple connected text on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest. And they can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Our EAL programme goal is for students to obtain CEFR B1 language ability within 6 terms.

Where there is a significant period of time between a child being assessed for entry to the Primary School and their start date at Regents, (e.g. three weeks or more) the EAL Department, under the guidance of the Head of Primary EAL, will provide the parents with practical English tasks for children to complete at home in preparation for joining the school. These tasks should be completed with the help of a parent / tutor.
