Global Contribution

14 二月 2014

One of the benefits of a global organisation such as Nord Anglia Education is the opportunities we can provide for students in connecting with others from around the world through our Global Classroom. This has never been more evident than the recent Global Classroom Expedition to Tanzania.

Six of our Senior students travelled to Tanzania and spent a week working with students from 17 other schools from across Nord Anglia Education. As well as learning about Tanzania themselves, the students also spent a considerable amount of time contributing to the local community and working to develop the buildings and infrastructure for a local primary school. This also meant working directly with young Tanzanian students, teaching each other, learning from each other, singing songs and sharing together.

The six students who have now returned to Pudong will be speaking in assemblies and talking with other students in the school. We intend for the impact of the Tanzania experience to extend to others, both in terms of learning and in terms of our outlook on society.

The development of character and a global conscience is a key part of this school. We all want children to grow up being positive contributors to society and at the British International School we achieve this through our Service programme. All students of all ages do something on behalf of others every term.

With reference to the above I would like to draw your attention to our forthcoming Hear and Share evening on Wednesday 26th February. This will be split into two sections, the first of which will be a focus on our Service programme, including the wonderful charitable work of our Community Group. We would sincerely welcome hearing ideas from others in the community as to how we can continue to develop our Service activities.

The second section of Hear and Share will be an open forum for a chance for anybody to discuss any issues they wish. This is part of our Parent Lens Survey, details of which have already been published. One of our Values at the school is being Open with each other. By undertaking this survey we hope to learn a lot more about what we do well and what we can still improve and are open to hearing all suggestions. I look forward to sharing ideas with you on 26th February.
