Final Recital for IB Musicians

18 三月 2014

An evening of classical music on Piano, Cello and the Chinese Guzheng from our talented IB Music students on Friday 21st March.

The talented musicians studying Music for their IB Diploma at the British International School Pudong campus will play their penultimate performance in front of a school audience this Friday, 21st March at 7pm.

Among the talented five is Mint Lee who was awarded fellowship of the ABRSM earlier this year – a prestigious honour and one which is reserved for only the most promising musicians..

According to the ABRSM Examination Centre in Shanghai, Mint is the "1st and Youngest Pianist in China" to receive this special honour.  Furthermore, the ABRSM records indicate that the current number of pianist accredited "FRSM in piano performance" is less than 100 across the globe.

“…thoughtful, well prepared performances of these Chopin Sonatas, from memory and using the acoustics and instrument intelligently. Mint Lee at the age of fifteen has studied and performed the Chopin Sonatas 35 and 58 for the ABRSM fellowship examination.”  These concluding remarks by the examiner reflect the outstanding achievement of not only learning and performing these large scale and important works, but also passing the examination and being admitted to the ABRSM fellowship. This is certainly a remarkable achievement by a student of such a young age.

Mint will be joined by fellow students Kerstin Pan and Jennifer Lin, also Pianists, Amanda Zhu on Cello and Gina Jiang on the Guzheng.

Earlier this year, these students also played for the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron at a luncheon event held in Shanghai for government officials and business dignitaries.

Mr Bevan Graham, the IB Coordinator and IB Music Teacher at the British International School says of these students: “We will really miss their focused energy and beautiful artistry with the instruments they play. They are a true inspiration to their fellow students and to aspiring musicians who have the chance to hear them. I hope it is not the last time we hear from them at the school – I am sure it won’t be.”
