A Collaborative Community

This has been another very special week demonstrating the strength of our community. The success of a school like this is down to many factors but it is so much more than a building in which lessons take place. The community feel and the participation of the whole family is so important and BISS is extremely special in that regard.

Much of the strength of our community comes from the incredible work of our Community Group. This past weekend saw the annual Dads and Lads Campout which is a wonderful event, so well attended each year and with such a fantastic spirit throughout. The committee from the Community Group was led on this occasion by Carolyn Butterworth who did a fantastic job and was ably assisted by many other Mums to ensure the Dads and Lads had everything arranged for them. My sincere thanks to all the helpers – it is the effort of many individuals which creates something wonderful for the community as a whole.

Each weekend sees a vast array of sporting activities taking place. I would like to acknowledge the work of all the members of staff who coordinate and run the teams, but also give a special mention to every single parent who plans for or attends a fixture. For some this is washing kit and for others it is cheering loudly from the sidelines and each aspect contributes greatly to providing memorable experiences for every student.

Today also saw our Infants Sports Day which has received magnificent support from so many parents. Working around the damp weather and unpredictable air quality required some patience but it all turned out superbly in the end. Whether events take place at weekends or during the school day such as this, each one adds something extra to our wonderful community atmosphere.

On a more mundane note, I would like to end by thanking everyone for their forbearance and support as we have worked our way around the road closures this week. We do not always receive information as early as we would like and your flexibility and understanding is greatly appreciated.
