Busking and Philanthropy in Junior School

20 六月 2014

The corridors of Junior School were transformed today into busy sidewalks, teeming with more than 20 buskers entertaining the milling crowds.

Students weren’t shy to show what they can do and Busking Day included a wide range of acts, from a very popular group of singers, the Roar Girls, and violinist Niamh from Year 4 performing an original composition, to card tricks from Curtis in Year 5.

Bugsy’s talented pianist, Joung Jin from Year 5 revisited our very successful Junior School production, with students getting into the spirit of things singing along. Cheerleaders formed pyramids and musicians of all types, from drummers to guitarists, showed their stuff.

The very appreciative crowds were also very generous, and hats were filled with coins and notes, with an impressive 7,445RMB collected for Heart to Heart. The Roar Girls – Carolina, Anna, Lindsey and Naina – raised the most money for charity.

In the afternoon, six performance finalists, two from each year group, entertained the audience in Assembly. Year 5 students Warren Gichana and Jack Lee wowed the crowd with a rendition of Lucky Strike, taking out best performance of the day.

Highlighting just how strong the philanthropic spirit is in Junior School, the work of several other students who have set up charitable businesses to raise money for Heart to Heart was also celebrated on assembly. They were Jonathan Dodd, Filippo La Scola, Josephine Lonsdale, Bethany Lamb, Chantelle Freeman Phillips, Cornelia Hylving who raised over 300 RMB in their own time for charity.
