Summer Football Fun Come Rain or Shine

When it comes to football camp, not even a plum rain downfall can dampen the enthusiasm of the young football enthusiasts taking part.

The Ebbe Sand Soccer Academy has kicked off its summer camp, taking full advantage of our top notch field and indoor facilities.

Harry, aged 10 and from Year 5C, takes a philosophical approach to having to take the fun indoors due to the rain saying, “It practices your control and footwork because you don’t have such a big space to play in.”

Coached by Xavi Santa Maria, ten young football enthusiasts are spending their mornings working on their technical skills and, after a hearty refuel in the Hub at lunch time, are back in action for afternoon games.

This cohort of players is already displaying excellent skills and coach Xavi says, “Some of them are from school and some from around Pudong. They’re playing really well.”

The boys, aged 7 to 12, had some field time this morning, but spent the afternoon playing matches in the gym. Stone, aged 10, says while he prefers the outdoors, there’s still fun to be had indoors. He says, “The teacher is very cool; there are many matches and it’s very exciting.”

Eleven-year-old Francese has enjoyed learning new skills from coach Xavi, whether indoors or out. He explains, “Coach Xavi showing us cool tricks like when he makes a rainbow over us, that’s what I like the most.”

Having the indoor facilities mean there’s no such thing as a “wash out” and Xavi says, “It’s great! We can use indoors or outdoors; we have so much choice.”
