Cool Science at Summer School

Summer School students, big and small, have been having plenty of fun with science this week, with their class teachers and our Head of Science, Mr Travis Anderson.

Donning his “mad scientist” wig and hat, Mr Anderson has taken the students through a range of exciting experiments, igniting their interest in the wonders of science. Mr Anderson says, “We’ve made baby rainbows using prisms, and we’re making things grow out of sand!”

Keeping with this week’s theme of Around the World in 80 Days, students have also explored the principle behind how a hot air balloon rises. There were gasps and wide-eyed amazement as a piece of folded tissue paper set alight, rose into the air like a balloon.

Interactive and fun science experiments are a great way for students to learn and retain the information. But the pleasure isn’t all for the students. Mr Anderson explains, “I just love to see their faces when the tissue rises and floats in the air as it burns to nothing.”
