IGCSE and IB Open Evenings

Choosing subjects which provide the best pathway to students’ future success is vital for every individual student. For students entering Year 10 and embarking on the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), that decision-making process starts mid-way through Year 9; while for students undertaking the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) programme in Years 12 and 13, the decision about subject choices will be expected to begin in mid-Year 11.

At The British International School Shanghai, Pudong, our highly qualified teaching staff have years of experience in guiding students to make those choices, with the support as well of our Higher Education Department which can provide up-to-the-minute information about university course requirement.

The IGCSE provides an excellent and comprehensive foundation for students aged 14-16 years who plan to study towards the IB. Our IGCSE programme includes a broad range of subject options which allow students to explore their interests and determine their strengths during this rigorous two-year course.

The IB Diploma is the most highly regarded international qualification for university entrance worldwide, with more than 3,900 schools in 147 countries offering the course. We are proud that, at our last five-year review by the International Baccalaureate Organisation in 2011, The British International School Shanghai, Pudong was the only international school in Shanghai to be highly commended in all aspects of the IB programme offered in our Senior School. In 2014, the school recorded its best ever IB average score of 34, against a world average of 29.8.

In order for students and parents to fully understand the strength and breadth of the course offerings in both the IGCSE and IB, we are pleased to announce information open evenings for both courses, open to existing students as well as those not currently attending the school. Both events will be held on campus and include addresses by the Heads of School, a key-note speaker, as well as opportunities to speak personally with individual subject teachers.

The dates are:

IGCSE Open Evening – Monday 13th October 2014 from 7pm

IB Open Evening – Monday 20th October 2014 from 7pm
