IB History Students Visit Magna Carta Exhibition

NAIS Pudong IB History students this week had the honour of visiting one of the most important historical documents in the world, the Magna Carta. The document, written in 1215, is the basis for what are now our modern-day democratic systems in the Western World. It was written to bring bad old King John into line, and give the barons of medieval England rights and a voice; in essence, holding the king to account to his people.

We were invited by the British Council to visit the exhibition which is currently on a world tour. The exhibition was a great insight into the origins of the document and we discussed many issues affecting us today, politically and socially. We were lucky to meet high-ranking clergy from the document’s home in Hereford Cathedral, and hear some fascinating talks from knowledgeable historians.

Our students represented the school and showed their History and TOK skills, asking probing questions and showing off their knowledge and understanding. We would like to thank the British Council for their hospitality.
