Year 5 Visits Natural History Museum

This week, the children in Year 5 ventured out of school with the quest off seeking something extinct! We toured around the many areas of what can only be described as a fabulous museum. The children’s imaginations were certainly stretched while viewing the great exhibitions on show. From this, many questions were asked as the children tried to deepen their understanding of specific creatures.

We ensured the children were given time to watch the interactive theatre documentaries. With the lights dimmed, the scene was certainly set and everyone was completely silent as they watched in wonder. Another impressive display on show was the fossil collection. The children were fascinated by how clear the remains were, which again generated many questions.

Dinosaur skeletons of different species showed just how big these creatures were. Our students were intrigued by the size of their jaws and sharp teeth which was an indicator of the foods they may have consumed. The taxidermy models of a range of animals were extremely detailed and gave the children an idea of their real shape and size in the wild. We were certainly surprised by the polar bears enormous paws and claws!
