ACAMIS Tournament Report

05 十一月 2015

Last weekend saw a huge two days of netball and rugby at NAIS Pudong as we hosted the 2015 ACAMIS U19 tournament.

NAIS Pudong entered two girls’ teams into the netball tournament and our NAIS Tigers A team ended their group stage in second place losing only one game against AISHK. That game had a major effect on the team as they lost Sammi Huang, their goal keeper, for the rest of the tournament due to a knee injury. The girls won their quarter final against Hong Kong International School on the Saturday morning with the team seeing good performances from Lara Niggli, Jule Scholten and Vanessa Oyuchi and Dianne Sautter doing a great job in defence. In the semi-final, the girls met Dulwich College and they were well beaten by 31 – 10. The girls had to try and pick themselves up for the 3rd place playoff game and in a tight game they lost 19 – 17 to AISHK. The girls should not be despondent as they played well and know they will improve in the future. Dulwich College went on to win the cup competition beating Kellet school in the final.

The NAIS Tigers B team worked tirelessly throughout each game and were in a very strong group. They should have beaten HKIS but lost by two points losing 16-14. Their other two games were against Dulwich College and Kellet and they lost both games but played well and did not make it easy for their opponents. In the quarter final on Saturday morning they lost to AISHK by 33 – 3. They lost the plate semifinal in a close game to RCHK but won their last game by 27 – 11 against NLCS Jeju. The girls should be pleased with their efforts both as individuals and as a team. The plate tournament was won by Hong Kong International School beating RCHK in the final.

The rugby tournament had all teams playing a round robin group phase of 6 games each team. Our NAIS Tigers team found the group stage difficult and lost 5 games and only beating SCIS Hong Qiao by 17 – 12. The playoffs meant our boys played against SCIS HQ and the French school in a round robin bowl competition. The boys came alive in their first bowl game and won by 55 – 0 with tries from Joe Paveley, Luca Ruisi, Emmi D’Anglio and Jack Bailey. Their second game against the French school to win the bowl was very tight. In the first half the boys were leading by 12  - 5, but in the second half we witnessed the French school coming back into the game and when the French scored a second try they were unable to convert the kick. The boys defended well and put themselves on the line as they stopped the French attack. As the whistle was blown to end the game the boys were elated with their performance and, after a very hard first day, came out on the second day to win the bowl and prove that, with a desire to win, the team could be a challenge to any team. Dulwich College went on to win the cup beating NLCS Jeju in the Cup final. BISS Puxi won the plate competition beating AISHK in the Plate final.
