Letter from the Head of Primary - 14th January 2016

We have had a super start to the new term with many of our year groups beginning new and exciting topics in their classes.

  • Primary Workshop
  • Primary Workshop

Year 1 have begun looking at ‘holidays’ and the children have been able to discuss their recent travel adventures over Christmas. Year 2 have begun their new topic on ‘toys’ and came into their classrooms earlier this week to find a magical toy workshop had appeared from nowhere. The children then set about creating their very own toys from junk modeling. Year 3 are looking at changing and separating materials in their new topic ‘Shake it’, but are doing this in a particularly exciting way – through food! Year 6 have also started a new topic and will be looking at evolution over time.

Year 4 and Year 5 are currently finishing their topics and, in the next couple of weeks, will be inviting parents to come into school to share the learning that has taken place in their year groups.

Our Early Years students are also beginning new topics and one in particular is very relevant to the time of year – Chinese New Year! Our Pre-Nursery children are learning about this very special festival which we are all very much looking forward to in the next few weeks.

This week we also held the first of our monthly coffee mornings of the spring term. The focus for these was ‘Communications in the Primary school’ and we shared with parents all the ways in which we communicate with our families, through various channels and levels of frequency. Since our last coffee morning we had taken feedback from parents and adapted some of the ways in which we communicate which we were able to discuss. It proved that having an open dialogue with our parents is really useful in finding out how we can together further develop our practices here at NAIS Pudong. Please do look out for future coffee mornings that we have planned this term and let us know if there is anything specific you would like us to talk about.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.
