In English the children will begin the week by writing persuasive letters explaining why it is important to drink milk. They will learn how to write a formal letter as well as using persuasive language and devices.
Following on from our Topic work, they will be writing instructions about how to make butter from cream. They will learn how and where to use fronted adverbials and imperative verbs.
They will end the week by designing an advert for the butter they have made.
The Guided Reading focus next week is to show understanding of what they have read by writing summarised versions of texts.
In Maths the objectives for next week will be as follows:
- Learn a written method for addition (column method).
- Learn a written method for subtraction.
They will then apply these methods to solving addition and subtraction questions involving money.
Next week, we will continue with our new topic. The children will learn 'the journey of milk'. They will investigate a variety of ways that liquids can be turned into solids. They will also try to churn cream into butter by shaking it and seeing what the effect is. Please let us know if your child has any dairy allergies or is lactose intolerant and we can find an alternative task for them. We will also begin investigating reversible and irreversible changes and plan an investigation to see if we can change a solid back into a liquid.
In Computing, we will begin our new unit; We are Opinion Pollsters. In this unit, the children create their own opinion poll, seek responses, and then analyse the results.
