Information and Reminders

Welcome back to the second part of the Autumn term; it certainly feels like summer is over now!

Please remember to book an appointment for your child’s Academic Review Evening on either Monday 17th October or Wednesday 19th October. You will be able to book an appointment until 10am on Monday 17th October.

Children are now able to wear their winter uniform as the weather has become colder. We would like all students to be in their winter uniforms by Monday 7th November. If you need any additional uniform items, they are available now in our uniform shop.

On P.E. days your child should arrive at school wearing their school uniform, then change into P.E. clothes, then change back into school uniform.

Next week we will be exhibiting our learning from the AD900 unit. All parents are invited to view our showcase of work about the Ancient Mayans, the Benin Kingdom and the Islamic Empire. There will be interactive displays and students in-role as characters. We look forward to your support.

Project Week is fast approaching, and students will be given time to prepare after next week for their lessons at the orphanage. Students will each prepare to teach something to one of the children there.

Flights are now booked and confirmed as follows:

6A - Martijn Arts - for valued contributions to assembly practice and demonstrating great effort and maturity in class.

6B – Joshua Haynes – for excellent teamwork and cooperation in group tasks.

6C - Chi Cheryl Lee - for being a reflective learner and thinking outside the box.

In English we will continue a unit about the field of discovery and archaeology, called World of Discovery. We will be reading non-fiction texts such as news reports, information texts and discursive writing. We will be practising speech punctuation in SPAG lessons.

We will also present some persuasive writing about the issue of fox hunting, which is an issue featured in our Guided Reading book ‘Stig of the Dump’.

For parents of those students who have been given banded reading books, please remind your child to return them to school when the books have been finished, to enable us to swap for fresh titles. Thank you to those who have shared in their child’s learning by listening to them read or asked questions about the text.

In mathematics we will continue working on visualising and constructing, which encompasses the concepts of 2-D shape drawing, angles, and 3-D shapes. We will be exploring nets of 3D shapes, plus the properties which define different 3D shapes such as types of prisms and pyramids.

We will review the recent assessment of long division skills to find areas for development.

You may like to quiz your child by asking them to estimate the size of various angles around the house.

Our AD900 unit will focus on preparation for our Exit Point on Thursday, 11.40am. We will be finishing exhibits for the showcase, specifically the artwork of Benin mask designs, and Islamic mosaic artwork.

We look forward to seeing lots of parents for our Exit Point event.

If we have time, we will continue our study of the Islamic empire by researching what is known about the life of Muhammad and why Islam spread so widely around the world.
