Message from the Principal

  • performance

Whilst the unusually warm weather in Shanghai has us all surprised, the rising temperatures didn’t hinder the snowfall in the Performing Arts Centre last night. Our annual Christmas Carol Concert ended with a flurry of snowflakes across the stage during an encore performance of 'Let it Snow'. The auditorium was packed full of beaming faces and I’m sure everyone who attended had a most heart-warming evening full of seasonal cheer. There can be no doubt of the significant impact our Juilliard collaboration has had on our students' engagement with the arts. The standard of performances go from strength to strength, guided by our fantastically talented team. A very special thanks goes to Mr. Bevan Graham, Mrs. Louisa Bailey and our Director of Performing Arts, Mr. Phillip Bailey. I’m delighted to announce that Mr. Bailey has been appointed as Regional China Lead for the Juilliard collaboration, creating even more opportunities for our students. Our Juilliard after school programmes begin next term, and in the meantime you can learn more about unique opportunities for students at the Juilliard Summer School Programme here. For more perspective on the benefits of an arts education in the ever-changing employment landscape of the future, I have included the following article in the Huffington Post by the CEO of Nord Anglia, Mr. Andrew Fitzmaurice.

It is not only our students who benefit from the unique opportunities provided by our Nord Anglia partnerships, but also our staff. This evening, Mr. Dean Chaudhry from our Early Years team and our Head of the IB Academy, Mr. Bevan Graham, will fly to King’s College in the UK. They will join a group of delegates from across Nord Anglia Education, and together will embark on their Masters in International Education with this prestigious university.

As we begin the countdown to the holidays, a friendly reminder that school will finish at 12 noon on Friday 16th December. Students will return to school on Monday 9th January, for the beginning of Term 2.
