The Magic Toymaker in Year 2

Tuesday the 16th of February was a busy day for Year 2 students and teachers, as the Infant corridor at NAIS Pudong was bustling with activity, conversations and applause to mark the end of the Year 2 topic The Magic Toymaker. Parents were invited to the exit point and students in Year 2 stood proud showcasing their learning through this topic.

Whilst studying this topic, students learnt about different materials used in making toys; sorted materials and investigated their properties; created toys from junk; compared toys past and present; researched the history of famous toys; and placed toys on a timeline as well. All of this learning came together for this special day to share with parents.

There was an old-style puppet show theatre, where the story of Little Red Riding Hood was being told and the parents enjoyed this thoroughly. Later, the students guided their parents around the toy museum which had different stations for learning historical facts about some famous toys like the teddy bear, LEGO, Barbie and chess.

The parents also entered the games room, where they found out about games from the past and present by learning to play these alongside the children. Some of the games being played were chess, odds and evens, and scissors paper rock.

The highlight of the day was a LEGO workshop held by The Genius Workshop, where the students learned how to build catapults.
