Community Group News

It has been a very social and active start to Term 2 for our school Community Group as they look towards two of the most loved events on the school calendar, the International Food Fair and our end-of-year summer event.

However, to start, a group of some 70 parents got together at El Willy on the Bund on Wednesday 27th January, for a first social get-together of the new term. Organised by Ros Sapsford, the lunch gave everyone the chance to swap holiday stories and catch up after the Christmas break, and was also attended by some of our newly arrived parents. From all accounts, the food was delicious, the surroundings perfect, and the company even better.

On to business, and the first meeting for this year’s summer event was held on Monday 25th January with a small group gathering to begin discussing logistics for the event. After Chinese New Year, information will be sent out to the broader school community to get more parent volunteers to assist with organisation and the running of the event on the day. The event will be held on June 4th.

More than 60 parents attended the first meeting for the International Food Fair and Parade of Nations on Wednesday 3rd February and there was an air of great excitement as country leaders and volunteers began to discuss their plans for this fantastic annual event. The meeting was led by Community Group Chairperson Jody Dexter and event organiser Selena Bertolotti was a great opportunity for volunteers to find out about how this year’s event, to be held on March 23rd, will run. For those new to the event, it certainly gave them an idea of just how amazing the day is when up to 60 nations prepare foods, decorations and don their national costumes in a huge international celebration. If any parents would like to find out how they can get in touch with their national groups and take part, please email

Orphanage volunteers have also recommenced visits to the HuiXin Orphanage and Community Group orphanage volunteers, Toni Crowther and Chenyi Lum have organised funds and hongbaos for the orphanage’s annual CNY party.
