Letter from the Head of Secondary - 4th February 2016

As ever at NAIS Pudong, it’s been a very busy week. It was great to see so many of you at the Temple Fair on Sunday, and this, combined with the Secondary Chinese New Year assembly led by Ms Shu on Tuesday, have really helped to get everyone into the holiday spirit. The assembly included our students performing a lion dance, singing, dancing, poetry and storytelling. For those of us here in China for this great festival for the first time, it has been a very interesting and enlightening experience.

On Monday morning we welcomed back our swim team, returning from a successful meet in Phuket, and on Tuesday some of our IB and IGCSE Art students enjoyed a very interesting gallery visit, which will definitely enhance their art studies, while others sat one of their oral exams for IB English. This evening we are holding our ‘EE launch’ event, where Year 12 parents will be introduced to the Extended Essay process that our students undertake as part of their IB Diploma Programme. Finally this week, we have ‘Dress up day’ tomorrow, where students and staff are invited to dress in either Chinese style, or in red, to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and donate 10RMB to the Heart to Heart foundation.

Valentine’s Day falls on the last day of our week’s break, but we will be celebrating here in school on Monday 15th, with students purchasing roses until tomorrow, with proceeds again going to the Heart to Heart foundation. The roses will be delivered to their friends on that Monday morning – what a lovely way to start the next half term!

Shortly after we return, on 24 February, students in Years 7 – 10 will be undertaking their Cycle 2 assessments, and letters with the timetables for these, and details of how students can access additional revision material, will be sent to you very shortly. I hope students will be able to spend some time over the next week preparing for these assessments, but we encourage students to maintain a good work-life balance, so I am sure they will also spend lots of time enjoying this festive season with their families.

With best wishes for the Year of the Monkey!
