Letter from the Head of Primary - 9th March 2016

10 三月 2016

I recently received an enquiry regarding the air purification systems we have in our school. I have therefore detailed this below for all parents to see. This also led to a conversation amongst our Senior Leadership Team as to further measures we can take as a school to make our staff, student and parent bodies more aware of how we can ensure a safe indoor environment during polluted days. To that end, we are currently reviewing our existing Air Quality Policy and adding further procedures to tighten up our response to poor air days. These include more frequent reports of the external AQI reading during the day; taking frequent readings of the air quality within our school buildings using our hand held monitor; increasing signage throughout the school of how to maintain a good quality of air within the school buildings and identifying clear responsibilities of staff members in terms of carrying out daily procedures and checks. As part of the Air Quality Policy we are also including the activities we provide for students during indoor breaks as this has also been raised by primary parents. We will publish our updated Air Quality Policy very soon. In the meantime, please see below for information on our purification systems:

  • Book Week

Air purifiers

We have two brands of air purifiers at NAIS Pudong:

  • Honeywell air purifiers are fitted in all classrooms and some offices. These are built into the ceiling and have a slightly different looking vent compared to those we have for air conditioning. Filters are removed and washed a minimum of three times a year.
  • Yuan Da purifiers are free standing purifiers and are placed in offices that do not have in-built purification. Filters are removed and washed a minimum of three times a year.
  • Our sports halls and Performing Arts Centre have filter screens installed on the air conditioning units which provide the same purifying effect as the systems in the rest of the school. Filter screens are fully replaced a minimum of twice a year.

Filters are changed by our maintenance team according to the manufacturers recommendation (see above) but also according to indicators on the specific appliances.

We are always happy to answer any questions regarding our Air Quality Policy as well as receive feedback and advice on how we can further improve it.

Upcoming events in Primary

A reminder for primary parents that we have some upcoming events that we would love for you to attend.

Monday 14th March – Come and see our students parade in their Book Week costumes at 9am in the Primary playground. Following this there will be a coffee morning for parents to discuss how to get the best out of our Learning Centre.

Monday 21st March – Parents of students in Year 4 and Year 5 are invited to come to our Residential Parent Information Meeting at 6pm, where we will provide you with more information on this year’s Year 4 and Year 5 Residentials.

Wednesday 23rd March – Come and join the whole school as we represent our countries in our Parade of Nations. This will take place on Wednesday morning at 9am on the main forecourt near the main entrance of the school, prior to the International Food Fair.

There are of course a whole host of events taking place within school for both Book Week and International Week. Please get in touch with us if you would like to be involved in sharing your home countries traditions with our students.
