Next week we will use our Book Week theme of Space and Science Fiction throughout our English learning. Children will have the opportunity to reinforce the many writing techniques they have learnt over the past term and embed these in different contexts. Children will be writing letters using both formal and informal language, as well as technical vocabulary, and structuring texts appropriately for their audience. We will also be using some lovely space books as a stimulus for this work.

Next week in Maths, children will complete the data analysis of given pie charts and will also ensure they have analysed all the data from their Surveymonkeys which are being used as part of their Computing topic. Following on from this, children will learn about ratio. Focus will be on solving problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values can be found by using integer multiplication and division facts. We will also look at solving problems involving similar shapes where the scale factor is known, or can be found.

As we come almost to the end of our AD900 Topic, children have been studying the demise of ancient civilisations and, in contrast to this, what keeps a society together. You can see some pictures of their work on this in our collage.

Next week we will continue to compare the religions and cultures of the civilisations we have been covering. Children will create Mayan art based on the masks featured during celebrations and festivals. They will also examine the intricate designs of Islamic art and sketch out, design and create their own mosaic based on these geometric patterns.
