Year 4 Tomb Raiders

As the entry point for Year 4’s new IPC topic ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’ the students were immersed in fun activities to get them excited and engaged in the topic we will be learning about over the next few weeks. Our “tomb raider” activities also providing a platform from which every student has an experience to draw from as they progress through the unit.

The activities that the students were involved in included:

Sands of Time: Students had to use brushes and sieves to sift through layers of sand in order to find some Ancient Egyptian artefacts. There was also one artefact hidden in the sand to get students thinking about what period of time they should really be looking at.

Dark Tomb: Students explored Ancient Tombs with flashlights and looked at the walls to see pictures of Egyptian treasures. They then had to come out of the tomb and try to sketch what they saw.

Take a Peek: Using the interactive whiteboard, students used the spotlight tool in order to highlight small parts of an image by moving it around. The students then had to come together and try to sketch what they thought was hidden.

Broken Fragments: Students were given images of Ancient Egyptian wall paintings that were cut into pieces.  The groups of children then had to try to reassemble the images, then study the details to find out what they could learn from them.

The students had a fantastic time and were really engaged in the entry point to their new topic. This also allowed for them to formulate some questions that they may like to enquiry about throughout the topic, making it more student led. Keep posted for more news about our exciting topic of ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures!’
