Inaugural House Drama Competition

05 四月 2016

As an exciting addition to International Week festivities during the last week of Term 2, on Wednesday 23rd March, the very first Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong House Drama Competition was held.

To keep with the international theme, 24 children from Years 3 to 6, representing each of the four houses (Qi, Dao, Li and De) chose a story from another culture to use as a stimulus to create a play. The stories came from across the globe: The Carpet of Dreams from Afghanistan; The Children of Lir from Ireland; The Lion Man from Kenya; and, The Search for Osiris from Egypt.

Each team did a fantastic job presenting their stories in front of the entire Primary school and a panel of ‘expert’ judges including Mrs Passante, Mrs Walace and Mrs Bailey.

The children have been working on their stories during a Tuesday afternoon CCA since the start of Term 2 and put a lot of thought not only into their acting skills but also costumes and set. Even though it involved the junior school, we were very thankful to receive help from some Year 12 students who helped mentor the groups each week alongside Mr Trayte.

The winning entry, The Carpet of Dreams by the Li house team, earned the team 200 house points, while all of the other participants received two house points.

The first House Drama Competition was a great success and I am hoping that next year it will be even bigger and better.

Mr Luke Trayte
