Information and Reminders

Tuesday 17th May – Year 3 trip to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum

Tuesday 24th May – Year 3 ‘Horrible Histories’ rehearsal after school

There is a souvenir shop at the Science and Technology Museum that we will visit after our tour on Tuesday. If you would like to give your child some money to buy a small gift, please give it to them in a small purse or wallet so they can keep it safe. We recommend no more that 100RMB per child. Please remind your child that if they do decide to bring some money, they will be responsible for looking after it!

As the weather gets warmer, please remind children of the importance of staying safe in the sun. We encourage all children to wear a suitable sun hat at break times and, if you would like to apply sun cream before they arrive at school, please feel free to do so.

Star of the week

3A: Kerem – for excellent acting skills and incredible voice projection when rehearsing our ‘Horrible Histories’ script!

3B: Vishnu – for caring and thoughtful behaviour in the playground

3C: Mercedes – for finding out how to improve her work and responding well to feedback to produce an excellent piece of persuasive writing

In English  next week, the children will consolidate their understanding of how to use the present perfect and past tense form of verbs correctly. After our visit to the Science and Technology Museum, the children will write a recount of the trip on Wednesday. They will be asked to demonstrate their skills in writing in chronological order, writing in the 1st person, applying their understanding of tenses and including interesting detail in their writing. Following on from this, we will look at some information leaflets and write our own information leaflets about the museum.

Next week in Maths, we will continue to develop and consolidate our learning about fractions. The children will learn how to compare and order fractions. At a basic level, this will involve working with fractions that have the same denominator. However, as the children become more confident, we will progress to comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators. Moving forward, the children will consolidate their skills in finding fractions of amounts and numbers. Initially, we will focus on finding unit fractions of amounts – e.g. 1/2 of 24, 1/3 of 36 etc. before moving on to finding non-unit fractions of amounts - 3/8 of 64, 4/9 of 81 etc.

To end the week, the children will apply these skills by solving problems involving calculating various fractions of amounts.

In Topic next week, the children will continue to design and construct model houses with working lights and door buzzers. Thank you very much for all the resources that have been sent in so far.
