Stars of the Week
Tying into our topic ‘What’s on the Menu?’, students will continue looking at instructional writing. This will come in the form of writing a recipe. The focus will be on using time conjunctions in order to put steps in chronological order. We will also be looking at verbs and adverbs in order to better describe how each step should be performed. In addition to this, we will be focusing on presentation skills, as students will be demonstrating and recording their recipes. We will also be recapping on our reading skills and looking in detail at inference and prediction.
In Maths next week, we will be revisiting coordinate points and translations on the coordinate plane. Students will be looking at moving a shape up, down, left and right throughout the four quadrants. As we worked with compass directions during the residential, we will be having a closer look at this area of maths as well. Students will be working in groups to create a set of directions using coordinate points around the school.
In topic this week, we will be learning as Geographers and investigating where food comes from. Students will be learning about how food is produced, in particular on farms. We then will be going on a field trip to Metro supermarket where students will be involved in a treasure hunt activity. The aim of this will be for students to realise that some foods travel a long way before they end up on our plates. We will then be investigating farming in China and comparing this to the farming done in other countries. Students will realise that every country has conditions which benefit certain crops and livestock. Finally, students will work in groups to create an advertisement for the fictitious restaurant they are designing.
