In English next week, we will be discussing and explaining how to be a responsible tourist. We will look at a range of famous tourist sites around the world and discuss what problems tourists can cause here. The children will then use these ideas to make a video for tourists to watch before they visit or enter a tourist site. In groups, the children will need to consider the audience, structure and purpose of their video. We will watch the videos and peer assess to decide how well they persuade us to be responsible tourists. Later in the week, we will read a variety of different playscripts linked to tourism. The children will identify the features of a playscript to help them with their own writing. On Friday, they will write a playscript based on their tourist video from earlier in the week.

Next week in Maths, we will be focusing on geometry and measures. To begin with, we will revisit our understanding of reasoning about polygons, and apply this to our understanding of angle rules around a point, on a straight line, and in a triangle or quadrilateral. Next, we will revisit and consolidate our understanding of transformations. This will include work on reflections and translations. To extend this, we will also look at enlargements and reflection. We will focus specifically on the area of rectangles and compound shapes, linking this to our knowledge of perimeter through some tricky problem solving.  We will be exploring capacity and volume of 3D shapes, including some triangular prisms and cuboids.

We are in the second week of our new topic 'The Holiday Show'. The focus is on the children utilising their geographical skills. As a class, we will be exploring 'GoogleEarth' - looking at geographical features of places we have been to on holiday. We will familiarise ourselves with terms such as 'human' and 'physical' features. Using globes and atlases, we will explore the physical and human features of places in China. The children will be learning new words such as 'longitude', 'latitude', 'Tropic of Cancer', 'Tropic of Capricorn' and 'Prime Meridian'. As travel agents the children will analyse the profiles of tourists and suggest areas of the world that would be suitable for a holiday for them. Towards the end of the week, we will be looking at tourist attractions in China and investigate how a tourist attraction impacts on the local environment. The children will look at how attractions have changed over time. Finally, there will be a visit from a well-travelled teacher working in the school, who will explain their experiences of a tourist attraction they have been to. The children will have the opportunity to ask the teacher questions.
