This week in English, we will be focusing our skills on explanation writing. This will be closely tied in to the Science work we will be doing in our topic. Students will be looking at several different explanation texts and using these to understand the structure which an explanation text uses. They will then be looking at using causal connectives to help explain why certain steps happen. Students will then begin writing their own explanation text explaining the steps for the germination of a seed.

In Maths next week, we will be focusing on estimating and using inverse operations. The purpose of this will be to ensure that students have the skills to adequately check their work after they have completed it. Using the inverse for all operations - multiplication, division, addition and subtraction - will be covered this week. In addition to this, we will be revisiting multiplication and division skills. Students will be recapping using several different methods so that they can choose the one that they feel most comfortable with.

In Topic, we will be continuing our work as Scientists and focusing on the germination process of seeds. Students will be working on a number of different investigations to see how certain conditions can affect the growth of plants. In addition to this, students will be looking more closely at how food deteriorates over time and at the growth of bacteria. They will then be devising their own health and safety policy for their restaurant based on what they have learned. As Historians, students will be completing their task of creating a menu for a famous person in history. This will involve students looking at the region these famous people are from, finding out the cuisine of that point in history and researching to see what types of food they could make for these famous people.
