Due to next week being our SATs week, we have altered our weekly timetable a little. In addition to the sessions which will be used for the tests, the children will receive the following lessons next week:

We will be continuing with Kensuke’s Kingdom, reading Chapters 7 & 8 and using some different drama reading techniques to embed the figurative and descriptive language Michael Morpurgo uses. Children will do some acting and drama-based games to help them understand and interpret the emotion within the story. Empathy and being in ‘someone else’s shoes’ will be our focus.

Next week, children will have the opportunity to design and play different maths games in order to consolidate their learning. We will recap on many of the objectives taught across the year and give children time to embed these further.

As we continue with our Olympics topic, children will learn about the famous Olympic emblem and where the idea behind the design came from. We will study the different logos used over the past decades and the children will have the opportunity to design their own. We will also be considering the role athletes play within our communities and asking ourselves ‘Are athletes good role models?’ We will look at the many corporations, but also charities, endorsed by athletes and discuss who is benefitting from this; companies, the athletes, charities, communities…..?

Next week, the children will have the opportunity to paint some water colour or acrylic seascapes based on the images created in our minds by the words of Michael Morpurgo in Kensuke’s Kingdom. Children will study seascapes of famous artists and consider what makes an aesthetically pleasing scape. The children will then design and paint their own.

Horrible Histories

Our KS2 Horrible Histories performance is just weeks away. As the children have been working hard towards their SATs, next week brings with it our first proper opportunity to begin rehearsals for the performance. We will also have a CCA performance on Tuesday 7th June. Please return your child’s permission slip for this if you have not already done so.

Having successfully created apps and presented these to parents, next week will give the children some time to reflect on their learning. Children will self-assess their learning and approach to the App development unit of work. We will then revisit coding and give children further opportunities to code games and programmes.
