In English next week, children will focus on a number of different writing and reading objectives. Children will have daily SPAG warm ups, giving them practice for the upcoming tests. They will also spend the week reading and comprehending different texts ensuring not only a thorough understanding, but a comprehensive ability to give written responses to their reading. We will also work on some shared writing in order for children to support one another in applying a number of writing techniques to their writing. Children will improve their use of: expanded noun phrases; show not tell; figurative language and cohesive devices.


The children have been working incredibly hard all year to understand and apply a number of different objectives and strategies within their Maths. Next week, we will be revisiting some objectives to ensure full coverage and understanding of the curriculum. We will focus on calculation, multiplication and division. We will revise written and mental methods of solving multiplication and division, as well as solving these operations within a written word context. Children will also have an opportunity to look at some practice SATs questions and work collaboratively to solve these problems.


Next week, as we near the end of our Fairgrounds unit, Year 6 will be inviting children from lower year groups to come and view their work. The Year 6 children will use their scientific language and enquiry skills to talk through what they have learnt and how they have applied this in a fairground setting. Towards the end of next week, we will also begin to learn a new History unit which will incorporate some of our English objectives. Children will be researching and writing a monologue of a historical figure in preparation for performing this to parents and children. You will receive further details of this event, ‘Night At The Museum’ in due course.
