Horrible Histories a Smash Success!

16 六月 2016

There were sacrifices and battles, game shows and street dancing, plus a whole lot of gruesome and gross behaviour as our Year 3 to Year 6 students presented their end-of-year production, Horrible Histories. Inspired by the Horrible Histories books and television series, ten separate skits presented by each of the class groups took the audience on a rollicking and hilarious ride through history, covering the Mayans & Benins, Romans & Greeks, Egyptians as well as the world’s great inventions.

Primary students and teachers have worked for months to create the scripts, costumes and props for the show, with extra help from the Performing Arts Department, to produce a truly memorable performance.

Over an hour and a half, the audience was treated to songs featuring such blood-curdling activities as drinking spit and sacrificing llamas, a Family Fortune-style game show featuring a family from the present and one from the distant past, an impressive version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, complete with mummy (the embalmed ones) dancers. Poor old Michael (aka Abby Dexter) also found himself on the slab being mummified, much to the audience’s amusement. There were not-so-brave gladiators, a murdered pharaoh and a cameo appearance from Charles Darwin. Most of all, there was a good deal of historical knowledge imparted in a very amusing way.

The final song featured all of the students gathered to sing the Horrible Histories theme song, reworked by our own Director of Music and the Arts, Mr Phil Bailey.
